The cladding surrounding some of the university’s main buildings had become infected with a diverse film consisting of black mould, moss, and algae. Softwashing UK were contracted to remove this growth and restore the cladding to its former glory.

What we did

Softwashing UK worked diligently around several subcontractors also on site to ensure all cladding was cleaned quickly, with world class results. All tricky access issues were resolved with MEWPs and ladders where necessary.

Cladding Cleaning in Pontypridd

The cladding at the University of South Wales, Pontypridd, had become contaminated with organic growth, a mixture of single cell green algae, red algae, and black mould. Clearly the campus staff were keen to improve the appearance of the building, as staining like this can affect the perception of visitors, staff, and students alike. Softwashing UK were required to clean and treat all the cladded areas of the building, and in doing so return the cladding to an as new condition. This would require cleaning from the safety of the ground, and also at height, which requires a greater degree of health and safety awareness.

Softwashing UK were able to use specialist access equipment to reach the heights of the building on all elevations. With our expertise in cleaning and removing organic growth we were able to eliminate the growth, and remove the stains, killing the growth at root system. This was achieved by applying legal and safe biocides with water fed poles. the use of poles ensures chemical drift is kept to a minimum. In order to protect staff, students and public, exclusion areas were cordoned off to prevent public access and interference while the work took place. This has a restorative effect on the cosmetic appearance of the building, and also is excellent for maintenance purposes.

After the complete removal of all organic growth and stains from the cladding the university of South Wales campus was much restored, and looked in optimum condition. Our client was delighted with the results. this was not only because the building looked great, but also because of the way that we went about the job.
