Softwashing UK were contracted to clean the K-Rend render exteriors to a large apartment block complex in Poole, Dorset. While the cleaning of the walls was not problematic there were a number of challenges to this project. Firstly the area was busy and heavily populated, and the use of plant and chemicals needed managing. There was also the issue of working at height. Softwashing UK were able to resolve these challenges, and the residents and block property managers were delighted with the outcome.
Poole has a long and rich history. First populated in pre-history, the area was used as a dock by the Romans, and as an oyster farm by the Saxons. In later years Poole became strategically important, and trade with the British Empire – particularly with Newfoundland, enriched the town considerably. Poole was a dock during Operation Overlord in World War 2. These days it is a bustling commercial town, and also hosts the HQ of the RNLI.
K-Rend is a rich, breathable, and resilient brand of render. It comes in over 500 different colours, and is manufactured using either limestone or silicon.
The product is weatherproof and very long-lasting, holding its colour for many years. It can become contaminated with organic growth, as bacteria can dwell in the substrate. This will cause discoloration such as black, red, or green staining. This can only be removed by softwashing, to kill the growth at root.
Softwaashing UK were able to safely manage the project. Specialist MEWP (cherry pickers) were used, so that all elevations could be safely accessed, and the lode bearing of the cobble paving surrounds not exceeded. The cleaning required spraying biocides, so to keep the public safe stewards were deployed as an extra precaution to prevent any public interference. Residents were also advised beforehand as to what to expect while the apartments were cleaned.
With health and safety as their watch words Softwashing UK were able to deliver a fabulous finish, and leave these Poole apartment blocks in optimum condition.
