Commercial Stone Cleaning Across the UK

Over time, natural stone surfaces can become stained, discoloured, slippery, and covered with moss, algae, lichen, and atmospheric pollution.

At Softwashing UK, we provide specialist stone cleaning services that safely restore the beauty of your stone without causing damage.

We provide commercial stone cleaning services for offices, hotels, schools, churches, heritage buildings, public buildings, retail premises, and residential properties throughout the UK.

Why Stone Cleaning Matters

Stone is a durable and attractive building material, but it is constantly exposed to the British weather. Moisture, dirt, algae, and organic growth can leave stone looking tired and neglected while creating potentially slippery surfaces.

Our professional stone cleaning services help to:

Restore the original appearance of stone surfaces
Remove algae, moss, lichen, and black spot
Improve kerb appeal and property value
Reduce slip hazards
Extend the lifespan of your stonework
Prepare surfaces for sealing or maintenance treatments

Our Specialist Stone Cleaning Methods

Every stone surface is different, which is why we assess each project individually and select the most appropriate cleaning method.

DOFF Steam Cleaning

For delicate and historic stonework, we use the renowned DOFF Steam Cleaning System.

This advanced cleaning method uses superheated water at high temperatures and low pressure to remove biological growth, dirt, paint residues, and surface contaminants.

DOFF cleaning is particularly suitable for:

The low-pressure process cleans effectively without damaging the stone surface, making it one of the safest and most environmentally friendly cleaning solutions available.

TORC Cleaning System

For more challenging stone restoration projects, we utilise the TORC Cleaning System.

TORC combines gentle swirling air, a small amount of inert granulate and water to carefully remove stubborn soiling, carbon staining, coatings, and biological growth while preserving the surface beneath.

TORC cleaning is ideal for:

Heavily soiled stone
Carbon staining
Weathered stone surfaces
Historic stonework
Architectural features
Stone monuments
Delicate restoration work
Conservation projects

This specialist system provides exceptional cleaning results while preserving the integrity of the stone.

Soft Washing

Soft Washing is one of the most effective ways to treat and prevent biological growth on stone surfaces. Unlike pressure washing alone, Soft Washing targets the root cause of algae, moss, lichen, mould, and bacteria.

Our Soft Washing treatments offer a range of benefits, including:

Killing organic growth at the source
Delivering longer-lasting results
Reducing regrowth
Improving the appearance of stone surfaces
Protecting your property from future contamination
Enhancing surface protection
Providing an environmentally responsible treatment

Types of Stonework We Clean

We clean and restore a wide range of stone structures, including:

Surfaces Suitable for Safe Wash Treatment

Our stone restoration and cleaning services cover:

Indian Sandstone Cleaning
Limestone Cleaning
Chilmark Limestone Cleaning

Bath Stone Cleaning

No matter the size or condition of the stone surface, we can recommend the most suitable cleaning method.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to clean natural stone?

The best method depends on the type and condition of the stone. DOFF Steam Cleaning, TORC Cleaning and Soft Washing are all highly effective solutions that can be tailored to the specific requirements of your property.

Is pressure washing safe for stone?

Not always. High-pressure washing can damage certain types of stone and mortar. We assess each surface individually and use the safest, most effective cleaning method available.

What is DOFF Steam Cleaning?

DOFF cleaning uses superheated water at low pressure to remove dirt, algae, moss, paint residues, and biological growth from stone and masonry surfaces without causing damage.

What is TORC Cleaning?

TORC is a specialist restoration cleaning system that gently removes stubborn staining and contaminants from stone using a controlled combination of air, water, and inert granulate.

How long does Soft washing last?

Soft washing treatments typically provide significantly longer-lasting results than pressure washing because they eliminate biological growth at its source rather than simply removing surface contamination.

Can you remove black spot from sandstone?

Yes. We use specialist cleaning techniques and treatments designed to tackle black spot, algae, lichen, and other organic staining commonly found on sandstone and natural stone surfaces.

Do you clean listed buildings and heritage properties?

Yes. Our DOFF and TORC cleaning systems are particularly well suited to sensitive and historic stonework, making them ideal for heritage and listed buildings.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We’ve used this service a few times over the years for our house exterior, gutters, and patio, and they always do a great job. They’re reliable, thorough, and often go the extra mile, even with tough stains. Everything is left looking really clean, and they always explain things clearly. We’re very happy with the results and keep coming back.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Softwashing UK was able to meet our gutter cleaning needs where others couldn’t. They were professional, reliable, and clearly knew what they were doing.

They also did a fantastic job cleaning the render on our garage — it looks so much better now!

Great service overall and I would definitely recommend them to others.

Many thanks to Softwashing UK for their excellent work at a reasonable price. We had some long standing algae stains on the rendering of the rear walls on our property in Cardiff.

And the admin team were great in providing a quote, planning the work, and visited our property beforehand to check access to complete the work.

Excellent team who know what they are doing. We are really happy with the results, better than we expected.

Thanks.

Excellent service from start to finish.
From initial phone calls with Bernie and Gavin explaining what would be required to clean our residential property to the job being completed exactly as described.
Would highly recommend as they have achieved amazing results, very professional.

Afterwards photos taken not long after completion so still drying out, the before photos were taken the 24 hours before before.

Every time it has been a fantastic service, always going above and beyond, whether it’s attacking a stubborn rust stain or taking time to explain the process. We have recommended them to friends and neighbours and using them every year is testament to how happy we are with the work they do. Thanks!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The service was great, Gavin arrived on the dot of eight o’clock and he then talked me through the process before starting. He worked diligently using a range of different techniques to address the various issues. At the end the render looked like new! Would definitely recommend and will have them back again when it needs doing again!
