Many homeowners and even experienced cleaning professionals often struggle to clean pebble dash walls effectively. Pebble dash, also known as roughcast, can become heavily stained and discoloured over time due to mould, algae, lichen, and general weather exposure. Cleaning pebble dash can be a challenge because of the delicate nature of the surface. Traditional high-pressure washing is not suitable, as it can loosen or blast off the embedded stones, leading to permanent damage.
At Softwashing UK, we offer a safe and highly effective pebble dash cleaning service using specialist soft washing techniques. Our method uses low-pressure equipment and pH-neutral, biodegradable cleaning solutions to remove organic staining without compromising the surface. Unlike pressure washing, soft washing protects the integrity of the dash while delivering long-lasting results.
Before we begin cleaning any pebble dash wall, we carry out a full inspection to check for cracks or damage. If we find any significant issues, we’ll advise you to get repairs completed first to avoid worsening the damage during the clean.
Once confirmed as safe to proceed, we gently rinse the surface with low-pressure water to remove dust and loose dirt. We then apply our pH-neutral cleaning solution, tailored to the level of contamination present. For lighter soiling, a simple rinse may be enough.
However, for more heavily stained or infected surfaces, we apply specialist render-cleaning detergents by hand to ensure deep penetration and total removal of moss, algae, and biological growth at the root.
After the treatment has been given time to work, we complete the process with another warm water rinse to remove any remaining residue.
The surface is then left to air dry, revealing a fully restored and refreshed appearance.
Softwashing is the safest and most effective way to clean pebble dash walls. It avoids damage, reduces the risk of regrowth, and preserves the textured finish.
Our team has cleaned pebble dash surfaces across the UK, delivering outstanding results for both domestic and commercial clients.

Softwashing Uk treats every job as its own individual project, as such, the most suitable method will be proposed in our quotation. Over the many years we have been restoring render, we have found that the cleaning of it falls in to five categories:
This service is used when the render has not been cleaned for many years and the render is heavily stained with black mould, blackspot and lichens, as per the sliding photograph.
This method requires every square inch of the render to be low-pressure washed, or steam cleaned and treated with stain remover, multiple times to achieve the desired finish.
This service is our render restoration service above, followed by our biocide render
treatment service, below in point 5.
This service is for your day-to-day cleaning of render, that has average organic staining i.e. green, red and some black staining in areas. An example of this is showed in the
photographs.
This service is for your day-to-day cleaning of render which is followed by a biocide
treatment, to help keep the render cleaner for longer.
The application of a high quality HSE approved professional use only biocide. A biocide
treatment will help keep render looking clean, while reducing the need for more intensive
and expensive render restoration cleaning, at a later date.
Specialist biocide treatments for render are essential for maintaining the appearance and durability of render. Homeowners often underestimate the impact of weather on render. Over time, harsh conditions can lead to cracks, discolouration, and mould growth.
Applying anti-fungal solutions, prevents mould and algae growth. It’s crucial to address these problems early, as they can worsen over time.
Our professional-grade biocide acts fast against biological growth on all external hard surfaces, breaking the reproductive cycle of microbial surface contaminants.
