Swansea Sto Render Cleaning for Admiral Insurance

Softwashing UK were contracted directly by Admiral Insurance to clean and treat the render exterior of their high-rise offices in Swansea. This was a complex project that required considerable expertise and management. The design of the building meant that access was an issue. There was also considerable traffic management to consider. The substrate itself consisted of sto render. Sto is an excellent substrate in many ways, it is both lightweight and durable, meaning it can be applied over many surfaces, even curved surfaces. It is also through coloured and holds its colour well. Once it becomes infected with organic growth it can however be very difficult to clean. This is because, due to being applied in thin quantities, it is more delicate than other render substrates. This means that heat cannot be applied to the surface for long, and sto render cannot stand much agitation. Cleaning it can therefore be tricky and time consuming.

The substrate on the Admiral offices had become contaminated with a diverse biofilm of black mould, red algae, and green algae. We used our fully trained and accredited team to clean and treat the building. Our Street Work's qualified team made sure all traffic was safely re-routed, and pedestrians diverted. Our IPAF licensed operators drove and manoeuvred the mobile elevating work platforms to ensure our cleaning team could reach the full height on every elevation of this impressive building. The sto render cleaning took place in two stages. Firstly the building was carefully cleaned using the Historic England recommended Doff Steam System. This low pressure steam has a great cleaning effect. We then used organic cleaning solution Safewash to kill all organic growth at root system. The Safewash system treatment poses no threat to human or animal life, and is manufactured from fruit acids.
