Softwashing is a low-risk alternative to traditional tile cleaning. It offers a deep, longer-lasting clean and doesn't harm even fragile old tiles.
Tiles are vital components to decoration, whether on the floor, wall, bathroom, or kitchen. Made from ceramic created by combining sand and clay at very high temperatures, there are two things to consider when tile cleaning. Firstly, how to clean the glazed surface of tile itself. Secondly, how to clean the tile grout. As they are often in damp and humid conditions, and decorative in purpose, tiles are a durable surface cover which require frequent cleaning. But even with frequent cleaning, organic staining on tiles (particularly in any damp environments) can be very unsightly and difficult to remove. This is most persistent on tile grout.
Before cleaning takes place, trained Softwashing UK operatives will perform a full inspection. This is most important when performing tile restoration, as damaged tiles will need replacement and repair to avoid further costs and damages. We will also analyse the tile and glaze type so as to avoid unnecessary damage, since many tile glazes can be badly damaged by the wrong type of cleaning agents. Anything but the correct cleaning agent can end up either too acidic or too alkaline for the tiles.
Before applying the softwash we will remove all trace of superficial dust, which can later deteriorate the surface if not removed. The next phase is to apply the right amount of low pressure, heat, and softwash blended detergent in parallel. While high pressure washing can damage tiles, especially older tiles, sensitive glazes will require rigorous but non-abrasive cleaning and buffing. We avoid acid based cleaners which can dull the finish of the tiles. We also avoid using soapy or hard water cleansing as this can leave troublesome residues. We will then use a superlight detergent active blend to get the best shine, and pure water which leaves no residues, as if cleaning glass. Finally, we will dry and shine the tiles to their peak appearance.
Although usually white grout can come finished in any colour, this can be difficult to maintain. As grout keeps the tiles in place, as well as sealing the gaps between them to keep the surface water resistant, it is important structurally to keep grout clean for more than just the aesthetics. Grout becomes most dirty in damp conditions which allow both mildew and black mould to flourish, which can be hazardous to your health, so it’s important to remove these before they can transfer infection. Unfortunately black grout moulds are often left untreated for some time, and can thereby become very persistent. Softwashing UK will clean and remove the staining caused by mildew and mould on grout, whilst also ensuring the root cause is eliminated entirely. In this way, expensive grout replacement can be totally avoided.
Before we clean the grout, we will highlight any tiles or areas where replacement is already necessary. We will then use light brushing, and an anti-fungal softwash detergent blend to clean away any stains and the causes of organic growth. Grout is sensitive, and mildew and mould tenacious, which is why softwashing is recommended. Otherwise the colour of the grout will fade or yellow, before the mould returns far sooner than expected.
When cleaning and restoring tiles, as well as cleaning grout, Softwashing UK are on hand to deliver outstanding and long-lasting results.
